When he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters "As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He, who has ears, let him hear. MATTHEW 13:36-43
So, in reading this I have to come to the conclusion that there are weeds in my, MY church and they were put there by MY enemy, the roaring Lion who seeks to kill, steal and destroy.
But which ones are they?
How can I pick them out of the crowd who is praising God and talking like a Christian after the service? So, Which one of them is a weed. First I want to say I am pretty sure this is talking about unregenerate people, ones who have rejected God. However, we can all be, and are, used, by satan at times to harass our fellow churchies. A thoughtless moment, a word not carefully chosen, a quick departure and a shove to the wrong person who might already be hurting from some other pressure and there we are- a WEED, at least to the one we have offended. Quite frankly I know that God sees the heart and it is not possible for me to know who is unregenerate, But I can certainly know when someone has done or said something to hurt MY feelings. Unfortunately, I am not always so discerning when it comes to the little [or big] offences I might give to other people.
I can do absolutely nothing to alleviate the pain others give me-except; I can be less sensitive, knowing that none of us is perfect, I can attribute rudenesses to accident, just as I hope my little inadvertent rudenesses are not intentional. I can watch people when we are conversing because often little hurts show up in their eyes and I can quickly apologize or at least change the subject, and I usually drop lots of silly jokes in my conversations to help lessen any touchy subjects from being Too touchy. I have no real handle on this, I make lots of mistakes and I have hurt lots of people, eaten lots of humble pie and had many people just decide never to speak to me again. I grieve over these, but unless an apology works I can do nothing about it.
Satan loves it when we permanently offend each other. He claps his hands with glee and hops for joy. So, It is a good idea if I try really hard NOT to be a weed.
Are there ways I can help myself from being a weed?
As a dream comes when there are many cares, so the speech of a fool when there are many words. ECCLESIASTES 5:3
If people are harried and worried using lots of words around them [talking a lot] can make things worse. It is always a good idea to listen more. I know how hard that is I have a great impulse to chat, and chat, and chat, I have to stop and force myself to listen.
When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment. PROVERBS 10:19
I know there are many ways of being a weed in the church, but I believe our mouths are the worst offenders.
Lord, Shut my mouth, help me to keep from hurting other people with my words. Help me to speak only words of Life from you. If my words are yours let them go straight to the hearts of my friends, but if they are mine let them fall to the floor unheard. Lord, cause me to be a blessing to those I come in contact with, for Your Glory. In Jesus Name, Amen.
